After a busy start to the summer, July has been all about bringing our plans to life.
Preparations for our fundraising efforts for Meningitis Now have stepped up another gear, with the team continuing training and finalising plans for both our London to Paris tandem bike ride and Quayside's Big Picnic, which takes place in September. We've been overwhelmed by the generosity and support from local businesses, clients and professional connections who have donated raffle prizes, sponsorship and their time to help make these events a success.
July has also been a fantastic month for building relationships within our local community. We've had the opportunity to work alongside a number of businesses, organisations and community groups across Gloucestershire, and it's been brilliant to see so many people getting behind our fundraising efforts.
Over in Tetbury, our newest office continues to go from strength to strength. Liam and Piers have been busy meeting clients, introducing Quayside to new people in the area and helping individuals and families with their financial planning, retirement planning, pensions, investments and mortgages. It's been encouraging to see the warm welcome we've received as we continue to expand our presence across Tetbury, the Cotswolds and the wider Gloucestershire area.
One particular highlight this month was delivering a Financial Wellbeing Session at Gloucester City AFC, where we had the opportunity to speak with players and staff about managing money, planning for the future and building financial confidence. Supporting local organisations in this way is something we're passionate about, and we're grateful to Gloucester City AFC for the opportunity to get involved.
As we head into August, there's plenty to look forward to. With the picnic and bike ride getting ever closer, the excitement is building, and we can't wait to share more updates over the coming weeks.
Business Owners: Is Your Business Working as Hard for You as You Are for It?
Over the past few months, we've spent a lot of time meeting with business owners across Gloucestershire, Tetbury and the Cotswolds. One thing we hear time and time again is that while they're brilliant at looking after their business, they often put their own financial planning on the back burner.
For many business owners, their business is one of their biggest assets. It's often providing today's income, funding future plans, and in some cases being relied upon as a retirement fund. Yet many business owners haven't taken the time to ask an important question:
What happens if things don't go to plan?
Whether you're running a growing company, a family business, a professional practice or working for yourself, having the right plans in place can help protect both your business and your personal finances. Topics we regularly discuss with business owners include: succession planning, protecting key people, extracting profits tax-efficiently, retirement planning, business continuity and ensuring families would be financially secure if the unexpected happened.
Key Areas to Consider
Protect Your Most Valuable Asset
For many owners, the business itself is their greatest source of wealth. Having appropriate protection in place can help safeguard the business, employees and family members who rely on it.
Plan for the Unexpected
Illness, injury or the loss of a key person can have a significant impact on a business. Planning ahead can help minimise disruption and provide financial security when it's needed most.
Don't Rely Solely on Selling the Business
A future sale might form part of your retirement plans, but having personal investments, pensions and savings alongside your business can create greater flexibility and peace of mind.
Make Your Money Work Harder
Many business owners have cash sitting within their business or personal accounts that could potentially be put to better use as part of a wider financial plan.
The Takeaway
As business owners ourselves, we understand how easy it is to put your own plans to the bottom of the list. But taking some time to think about your future, your family and your business can make a real difference.
After all, you've worked hard to build your business—it's worth making sure it's helping you build the future you want too.

After raising an incredible £10,000 for The Pied Piper Appeal in 2025, we're proud to be supporting Meningitis Now as our Charity of the Year for 2026.
It's been a busy few months as we've been preparing for two of our biggest fundraising events yet. In September, a brave team of Quayside cyclists will be taking on a London to Paris tandem bike ride, while we're also putting the finishing touches on Quayside's Big Picnic, a family-friendly community event packed with entertainment, food, games and fundraising activities.
We're incredibly grateful for the support we've already received from our clients, professional connections, local businesses and the wider Gloucestershire community. Every donation, raffle prize and message of encouragement helps us get one step closer to making a real difference for Meningitis Now.
